Pius V, born Antonio Ghislieri in 1504, was an Italian clergyman who became the 225th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. He is best known for implementing the reforms of the Council of Trent and for his role in the Counter-Reformation.

Pius V was born in Bosco Marengo, Italy, and entered the Dominican Order at a young age. He later served as an inquisitor in Como and Bergamo and eventually became a cardinal in 1556.
