Understanding the ACT Exam

The ACT, formerly known as American College Testing, is a standardized test used for college admissions in the United States. It measures high school students' readiness for college by assessing their knowledge in various subjects.

Sections of the ACT

The ACT consists of four main sections: English, Math, Reading, and Science. There is also an optional Writing section. Each section is scored on a scale of 1 to 36, and a student's composite score is the average of these four scores.

Preparing for the ACT

Students can prepare for the ACT by studying the content areas covered in each section, taking practice tests, and familiarizing themselves with the format of the exam. Many students also opt to take an ACT prep course to improve their scores.

Testing Dates and Registration

The ACT is offered seven times a year in the United States. Students can register for the exam online or by mail. There is a registration fee, which includes sending scores to up to four colleges of the student's choice.

Scoring and Score Reports

After taking the ACT, students receive a report that includes their scores for each section, as well as their composite score. Scores are typically available online 2-8 weeks after the test date. Colleges use these scores as part of their admissions process.
