What is a Propjet?

A propjet is a type of aircraft that is equipped with both a jet engine and a propeller. This unique combination allows propjets to take advantage of the benefits of both propulsion systems, offering increased efficiency and performance.

How do Propjets Work?

A propjet uses its jet engine to provide thrust during takeoff and high-speed flight, while the propeller is used for propulsion at lower speeds and during cruising. This dual system allows propjets to operate effectively across a wide range of speeds and altitudes.

Benefits of Propjets

One of the main benefits of propjets is their versatility. They can travel at high speeds like jet aircraft while also being able to operate efficiently at lower speeds, making them ideal for both short and long-distance flights. Additionally, the combination of jet and propeller propulsion systems results in better fuel efficiency compared to conventional jet engines.

Examples of Propjets

There are several aircraft models that fall under the category of propjets, such as the Piaggio Avanti and the TBM series by Daher. These aircraft are popular choices for both private and commercial use due to their unique design and performance capabilities.
