Appearance and Characteristics

The Norwegian Buhund is a medium-sized dog with a square build. They have a double coat that is weather-resistant, consisting of a soft undercoat and a harsh outer coat. This breed comes in shades of wheaten, black, and wolf-sable, with distinctive harness markings on their bodies.

Temperament and Behavior

This breed is known for its friendly and outgoing nature. Norwegian Buhunds are highly social dogs that form strong bonds with their family. They are alert and make excellent watchdogs, often barking to alert their owners of any potential threats. Proper training and socialization are essential to channel their intelligence and energy positively.

Exercise and Training

Being an active breed, Norwegian Buhunds require regular exercise to keep them mentally and physically stimulated. Engaging in activities like agility, obedience, and herding trials can help harness their natural abilities. Positive reinforcement training methods work best with this sensitive breed.

Health and Care

Overall, the Norwegian Buhund is a healthy breed with a lifespan of around 12-15 years. However, like all breeds, they are prone to certain health conditions such as hip dysplasia and progressive retinal atrophy.
