Muhammad Ali was an American professional boxer and one of the greatest athletes of the 20th century. Born Cassius Clay in Louisville, Kentucky, on January 17, 1942, he rose to fame for his unparalleled skills in the boxing ring.

Ali became an Olympic gold medalist in 1960 at the age of just 18. He started his professional career shortly after and quickly gained a reputation for his speed, agility, and unorthodox fighting style. His confidence and brash personality also made him a compelling figure both inside and outside the ring.

Boxing Career

Ali became the World Heavyweight Champion in 1964 after defeating Sonny Liston in a major upset. He went on to defend his title multiple times and participated in some of the most iconic boxing matches in history, including the "Fight of the Century" against Joe Frazier in 1971.

Rumble in the Jungle

One of Ali's most memorable fights was the "Rumble in the Jungle" against George Foreman in 1974. Despite being the underdog, Ali employed his famous "rope-a-dope" strategy to tire out his opponent and ultimately win the match, regaining the Heavyweight title.

Ali's Impact

Outside of boxing, Ali was known for his activism and his refusal to be drafted into the Vietnam War. He famously stated, "I ain't got no quarrel with them Viet Cong ... No Viet Cong ever called me n-word." This decision cost him his title and his boxing license for several years but solidified his status as a cultural icon.

Ali retired from boxing in 1981 with a record of 56 wins, 5 losses, and 37 knockouts. He passed away on June 3, 2016, but his legacy lives on as one of the greatest boxers of all time and a symbol of resilience, courage, and conviction.
